ELC Student Learns What Thanksgiving Means to Americans
In my Academic Communication Skills course with Professor Screen, I needed to survey an American about Thanksgiving traditions. So, I took this opportunity to speak with my good friend and neighbor, Peggy. She’s my favorite neighbor and friend. Also, she’s one of the friendliest people I have ever met.
Through this activity, I learned that Thanksgiving is one of the most important holidays in the US. Many Americans have traditional foods for this holiday such as turkey, mashed potatoes, and green beans. There are some families that prefer to cook ham because cooking a turkey can take a long time. Also, Americans spend time with family, and they share food with those who might not be with family.
I really loved this activity because it gave me the opportunity to learn to know more about American culture from a native English speaker. It also gave me an opportunity to practice speaking, which is something that I have been missing because of the pandemic.
